Hi all, could anyone explain the meaning of "yet"? When do I have to use it? Would be nice if I get answer. Thanks. Sina

"Yet" basically means "until now" or "already" with the understood expectation that if the event hasn't happened, it may do so in the future.

Q: Have you ever been to Australia?
A1: Not yet, but I hope to go next year for my vacation.
A2: No, I hate that dry climate. (I will never go, so "yet" is not needed.)

Q: Have you had lunch yet? (Everyone has lunch, so if you did not have lunch, you will eat lunch later today.)
A1: Yes, I've already been to the cafeteria.
A2: No, not yet. I'm going out with Sally for Thai food in half an hour.
A3: No, I'm skipping lunch today.
