What is the difference between a commercial and an advertisement. If a company has something to be shown on a TV, do they say they have a commerical or an advertisement to be aired?

| To me, they are synonymous when talking about TV and radio. It could be that in the business world, commercial would be favored over advertisement, but that's a guess. For other media (print, billboards, flyers, etc.), I would never think to call them commercials. To me, they are all advertisements. |
