Well, it's actually called death.
I was wondering if you ever thought about it because religion definitely influences a lot.
In my opinion ... no. I think it's better a life-long stay in jail than death.

yeah, it's cheaper ( although it's a little bit perverse to talk about money when it comes to life or death of a human being).
but i wonder if it wouldn't be a much worse punishment if you lock a criminal in a little dirty cell for all his life - so he can see what's going on out there, can think about what he've done and so on. because i think, as long as we don't exactly know what happens after death we shouldn't judge so easily about life and death. what if life after death would be an everlasting paradise even for those who had committed the worst crimes? or what if you have a criminal who believes that what he'd done would bring him to paradise (like many muslims do i think)? then you only would do him a favor in killing him.
on the other hand, there's also much more security for the people if the criminal isn't only locked up - from where he could break out - but dead, and can't come back and do more crimes.
and if he's dead there's no motivation for other fellow criminals to free him.
i personally don't think that we have the right to judge so freely about life or death. we can make too easily and too much errors because we always have a determined/limited view of point than to make such a final decision.
what do you think? that was at the moment all i could think of!

i agree!
okay, nearly at least. i don't think death penalty is necessary but i think it might be kind of a last resort for 'fighting' criminalism.
and, i didn't mean that all criminals are so moral that they think about their crime all the time - no, that's really unrealistic. but they have the chance, and some might use it.
but, hmmm.. i have some problems with this system in the USA anyway.
can it be that they let adolescents buy and especially *use* weapons so easily, but then they punish their criminals with death.. sounds a bit strange to me.. but that's another theme.

you guys have strong points of view.
Maybe im so afraid of death i dont think it's the better solution. But a criminal deserves a punishment for what he's done and so i guess that living in a jail ( even for all his life) would make some effect on the person ...right? ( at least a little). _________________ Tiziano, il mio cuore sta sempre con te |

okay, maybe i can make my point a bit clearer.
i personally am really against the death penalty, although i can't really say why. mostly because what i said - i think two paragraphes - above. if we don't know anything about death/after-death we shouldn't judge so easily about life and death even of criminals.
but i could imagine that there might be reasons why the majority of people would say 'yes' to death penalty.
