I put it in the *context* that Antartica is an early warning system for the rest of the world.
What is the meaning of such *context*?
Thanks |

An "early warning system" alerts you that trouble is coming your way so you have time to prepare for it.
In this example, it means that any global climate changes that will be a problem for the rest of us will first be a problem for Antarctica. |

Hmm... But what does "I put it in the context that" add to the meaning of the sentence? It sounds to me like it means that in some ongoing debate, the speaker of this sentence is saying that he/she made sure that everyone took that fact into consideration. Would you agree, Bob? |

I would agree. The "context" seems to be some on-going debate or discussion about the role of Antarctica as a harbinger of global climate changes. |
