"Done gone" as in, "My woman left me last week. She done gone."

????

It sounds like something from a country music song, doesn't it?

Anyone?

Definitely, Toe!.. I think it is used in rural areas and could appear in front of many past participles, not just gone. I think it is a regional replacement for "have/had" in the perfect tenses. Also, it is possible that in that use, the simple past could follow it instead of the past participle.

Like...

I done finished my homework.
I done went to Reno last week.

Do they sound plausible to you, Toe?

Laughing Laughing Laughing

English is tough for any foreign speaker to learn. It is even that more amazing when your native language has a completely different alphabet, sound system, and grammar. My hat is off to you guys (or at least it would be if I wore a hat)!

You done hit the nail on the head, bud! Smile

I certainly agree that the students of English here are to be commended! It is no easy task to learn to think in another language, especially one so fraught with quirks and inconsistencies and weirdness! Wink

(There should be an emoticon for 'hats off.')
