From Cambridge:
navigator
a person in a vehicle who decides on the direction in which the vehicle travels.
=======================================
So a navigator can be the driver, or a back seat driver?

A navigator is someone whose job it is to plan the direction in which a ship, plane, or car should travel. In such vehicles this person is not the driver.
A back-seat driver is quite different. This is someone in a car who keeps telling the driver what to do and how to drive.
The term is also appled to someone who keeps giving advice about things that they are not responsible for. |
