However, with two suspects arrested and charged with the murders before the start of November, CBS decided to air this episode during the November* sweeps* as planned.
What's the meaning of *sweeps* here?

Sometimes "sweep" is used to mean that many bad guys were arrested in several locations simultaneously. It's the end result of a long investigation. That's not what is meant here, though.
November is one of the sweeps months in the U.S. each year. It is a month in which the official ratings are measured for TV shows. It's very important for broadcasters because these ratings help determine how much they can charge for commercials. |
