I teach English to adult students in Beijing and many of them like to choose a Western name.
Nothing wrong with that, of course. It is a lot easier for me to talk to a Charles than to a Jianjun. However, some of them choose the most peculiar of names. Goodness knows where they get them from. For example, I know a girl who has named herself Randy. (I hope she never goes to the UK and introduces herself). Another girl calls herself Windy. (I blush every time I speak to her!) One boy has named himself Sky!
Among my favourites are:
Dirac
Blade
Storm
Rubbin
Clave
Crossing
Windforce
May I advise all Chinese students to discuss potential names with a Westerner before they make a choice. |
