Unhinged means out of control or crazy. I'm not sure about off the hinges. Can you give a context?

I think it was used to describe a person in a movie about black culture.

off the hinges, off the hook, off the chain...

yes, all mean out of control or better than expected
or wild and crazy. you'd say it about an especially
wild party or concert or something along those lines.

"jay-z's concert was off the hinges--girls were throwing
their bras on stage." etc, etc
