You're in luck. I just wrote an article on this for my company newsletter. Keep in mind that these activities are mainly for kids 3-6 and in large groups (usu. 20 or more students) : I really get into the holiday spirit during December – I wear Santa hats to class, wear a lot of red and green, use a...

Re: Win $100 for your EFL/ESl activity

The reason for the fixed format is to allow for easy searching in the database. It is easy on the brain and everything is easy to understand and compare with other games. I understand, but I work with kindergarten kids. Games like "Catch the Card", shown here , would be VERY difficult to understand...

Re: Win $100 for your EFL/ESl activity

On April 1, 2007, one name will be chosen from the box and the winner will be contacted via e-mail. You picked a helluva day to end a contest  Too bad it has to be a fixed format. I've compiled an illustrated book of over 100 kindergarten games, but putting all those into text would be too muc...

David-sensei That 'Nim' game sounds great - I'm going to use it next time I have a beginner class. Could also use it for practising the numbers 1-20. I think I once played a similar game in a pub - with three rows of matchsticks or something. The loser is the one who takes the last match. Cheers fo...

You didn't say how old your students were, or how many kids are in the class, so I don't know if these activities will work for you, but here's what I use for a classroom full of kindergarten kids: No Props Necessary Head and Shoulders ABC Song - Touch your head, shoulders, knees, and toes in succes...

Re: Conflicting TESL Theories

I have been studying TESL theories, but many of them seem conflicting. I have a lot of questions about them. As experienced teachers, what do you think about the following conflicts: 1. Should we teach all aspects of English (reading, writing, listening, speaking, vocabulary, pronunciation) whether...

One method I like is the "credit" method. In small classes, points acquired in the game can be used as credits to "purchase" items like stickers. Winning the game can get more credits, but there's still something to be gained by playing, even if you don't win. In large classes, with two large teams ...

Games for 3-5 year olds (large groups)

I work for a company in Japan that sends English teachers to kindergartens nationwide. We focus on making the English-learning environment as fun as possible for the kids. I haven't found many resources that fit our needs, so I decided to make my own. I have compiled a list of over 101 games for use...
