SMART ALEC STUDENT PLUS DISORDERLY IN CLASS
Thank you both Sheila and Sally for your input - valuable ! In truth, this older student is generally more *beep* than being a smart Alec however your comments said it all. For what it's worth: When he was young, he attended a skippers school, for children of shipping people. These kids would sit at...

STUDENTS WITH DIFFERENT LEVELS OF EXPERTISE ???
Your ideas do have merit - thank you ! However, when using teachings manuals plus workbook it isn't as easy then and better to split the group if the learning level is to great. What does help is getting the better ones to help the slower ones. Separately, I find that I take a l o n g time advancing...

Grammar teaching good and bad sides !!??
'so good receiving your comments ref your not using books. I've been teaching 50plussers privately for nigh on two years now in Holland and, as such have carte blanche on my teaching methods. Being a "newie", I chose to use New Headway Elementary books as a guideline. I have two groups - (A) are tru...

GRAMMAR TEACHING - GOOD AND BAD SIDES !
Dear Lorikeet, 'and yes, you're quite right and reckon that I should practice even more USING grammar ! I find nevertheless that certain teaching manuals come in far too soon with certain grammar is a bit advanced and could rather be taught further down-the-line when SS are better equipped to absorb...

Grammar teaching good and bad sides !!??
'am finding the need more'n more to slow down on teaching certain grammar elements in the early teaching stages as students find difficulty absorbing viz. Subject and Object pronouns, Possessive adjectives and such like as presented in New Headway Elementary course books that I use as a guideline. I...

Students with different levels of expertise.
Hello Kralik, Thanks for your input - appreciated. I found it necessary to remove beginners who were truly battling and place then into a smaller class thus giving them more exclusive attention. Perhaps a luxury for them and not for me but it certainly has helped them and has created a better balanc...

STUDENTS OF DIFFERENT LEVELS OF EXPERTISE etc
Hi Sarah, Thanks for your input and have checked-out Geoff Petty's site - 'looks good and will review again later. I also liked your comment on challenging each of the learners to REITTERATE previous learning at the start of a new lesson. I feel strongly that more knowledge will be instilled in this...

STUDENTS OUT OF THEIR DEPTH !!!
Thanks once again Lisie. . . 'food for thought.
Some students in a group appear to have more patience in helping than do others.

STUDENTS OUT OF THEIR DEPTH !!!
Thanks Lisie for your input - noted and yes, not an easy one this ! While most in my class/classes have a basic and/or smattering knowledge of English, three of my students have nil, repeat NIL knowledge and battle to grasp what is being said. Time will not allow to give extra lessons and/or split g...
