Recently a friend asked me for my suggestions for three 18-hour workplace workshops on "vital workplace communication skills" for ESL students. The workshops have to also be open to native English speakers. Does anybody have some practical tips on what should be included? How would you structure it...

Why do you need to? To do some fairly pointless practice to get some sort of possibly useless qualification? It surely depends on the audience. For example, I come from Lithuania where online tutoring tradition is just developing. We have some distance courses but the majority of people prefer face to face lessons. Also, older people are not very computer literate, so if it's Skype or Mars, the same thing ...
