I am running into more than one list of symbols used to provide a short hand for sounding out words in English. There is the typical list in the front matter of a Merriam-Webster's dictionary. Yep. Very common. Usually distinguished from a theater by it's purpose (generally not plays or performances, but lectures, presentations and demonstrations). Event halls are very large rooms. The layout has flat, rather than tiered, seating arrangements.

Workplace Accent

Thanks for your feedback. Turns out it was mostly inflection and a few vowel differences. This has taken some practice. Not sure if she actually incorporates it at work, but my student seems happy with her progress.

American English in Business Settings

I am tutoring a professional from Beijing who is interested in losing her British accent. She says it interferes in communicating with her American co-workers. Is this a problem for English for Business students working in American companies? Is American English becoming the standard Business dialect?
