Some great ideas in this thread, including things I've never thought of. I've written a couple of articles on the topic, including some additional tips: http://edition.tefl.net/ideas/younglearners/variations-for-large-pre-school-classes/ http://www.onestopenglish.com/children/methodology/classroom-m...

Update: Most of the Reward resource packs pages are included on the Onestopenglish website if you subscribe, though you have to search for each language point you want rather than browsing each pack.

I disagree with Sally. A year or two abroad is a great experience, but it will almost certainly set back your career in the UK. That is the choice you have to make. The days of employers being impressed by people living abroad are long gone.

No idea about universities. Why not go to Korea or China for a normal T...

I agree that Lewis's more practical books don't have the interest of his first book. Much better is the recent Teaching Chunks of Language from Helbling Languages. I think my review of it in Modern English Teacher should be coming out this month.

As with many things, the easiest way into it is to try a textbook based on that philosophy. I've used Business Matters and Innovations, but they might both be a bit too UKcentric for your students. That also raises the question of whether it is possible to have a Lexical Approach that takes more acc...

Good point, but there's a big difference reading out single lines or sentences and reading out whole passages. A few truly Advanced textbooks deal with the latter, and you need to know where to put in pauses etc. It's a skill most native speakers don't have. The former is exactly the same skill of s...

Scott Thornbury seems to be very interested in the history of ELT at the moment, so you can pick up loads of nice nuggets from his blog and here:
