This is a great question. I'm not a native speaker (I have a concentration in Spanish so I know very formal Spanish), but I did a quick corpus search using http://www.corpusdelespanol.org/web-dial/. I looked for "gracias por su atención", and I actually didn't find any instances of the informal sec...

Hi Katy, Have you tried setting up prompts with the learner or tried getting the learner to read out passages? I would say reading out loud and then asking the learner to repeat summarize what they read might be helpful in this case, especially if she is already great at reading and grammar. It soun...

If you're looking for an online teaching site that covers a good number of skills, I have heard and tried out Memrise, and I really liked it. https://www.memrise.com/
There are plenty of different subjects, topics, and languages, as well. Hope this helps.

Hi there,
I was looking through some other posts and someone had posted about some home-based or school-based positions found on: http://www.esljobslounge.com/
I am not sure how legitimate these are, but it's a place to start.

Thank you, Cent! I figured the spelling would be most noticeable. The other teacher mentioned some differences in relative pronoun usage and prepositional phrases, but bringing up that it's a dialectal difference is a great idea. It will at least make the learner aware that these differences occur i...

I have never found a free textbook online. I know where I live in the US I could go hunting in some used book stores for a textbook. If they are private lessons and you only have one student. There are graded level readers from both Cambridge and Oxford. I prefer the Oxford but they are abridged st...

It looks like Gerard's last post was on Feb. 5 which mentions a "guess the movie" game. It looks like there has been a new game uploaded since then. Maybe he will try to post a game once a week or twice a week. Gerard, I like how you have recently started to give power point and word docs to accomp...

Hi Gerard, The blog looks great. I will be honest and say there are times I forget that students like having fun and playing games, so seeing this definitely reminds me that I should incorporate games more. Also, plenty of great ideas here and inspiration. I like that you've reinvented some games (s...
