Go easy on her. Shy people often clam up when pressured. Does she speak a lot in her own language? No? Then she won't speak much in English. It is called the International Spelling Code and is A for Alpha, B for Bravo, C for Charlie, etc. it is used for pilots and others to spell necessary words.

You could write the answers and on the board and then cover them up. I used to write the answers in white wax from a candle so the students couldn't see them on a piece of white paper.
