English for Business Studies

Following on with emile's reply, I have had the opportunity to use New International Business English. I have also used English for Business Studies, again from Cambridge. I prefer the latter for higher level students. NIBE stresses commercial English and may be too functional for banking students. ...

Hello Plume, Are you trying to teach them how to write a technical report or how to translate in functionally and gramatically to English? Both are possible. I have spent a lot of time in helping advanced students "anglicize" their work documents to fit an American environment. Presentations as well...

Rainbow Passage

Is anyone aware where I might find a copy of the Rainbow Passage? It is a standard assessment tool for the hearing impaired that uses all the American English phonemes in the same frequency as they are used in everyday speech. I was hoping to evaluate whether it would be useful for assessment in the...

Postal and Management Info

I went to http://www.usps.gov and found a lot of user information for the consumer. I would assume the vocabulary and functionality would be helpful for your task. I haven't tried with Banking but expect you can use the consumer information there to get vocabulary and some graphics. For management, ...

If you can get a network connection in the classroom or use a lab you can play these directly. For the adventurous you can even get Mobile Phone service that connects directly...

Video for business language

I have been using streaming video from the Internet. If you have an Internet connection in your classroom it is easier. I recently signed up for Internet access using my cell phone and can connect somewhat faster than a dial-up line to a laptop. There are a number of sights that make video files ava...

Difference between "trip" and "journey"

I agree that the dictionary definitions of both words are essentially synonymous. I believe the British will use journey more frequently. Most of my business travel involved multiple stop trips. The term journey was never used in describing trips to the West Coast, month stays away from home or day ...
