My Chinese pupils are devils for demanding a reason for specific usage, and many are fully convinced they know more English, and understand the rules of grammar better than a native English speaker.

As you enter the Airport at Being, China, there is a large sign saying, “Welcome you to Beijing.” I tell my students this is incorrect and it should read, “Welcome to Beijing.” They challenge this and ask me to explain why. You do not say where you are based, but if you are using Headway you are probably in China. Getting ESL books into China is not easy, but I have had success with Cambridge Press.
