Book higher than the level of the class

Hi. I'm stuck this term with New English File Intermediate (a good book) with a basically pre-int class. I'm finding they struggle with the sheer level of the reading and listening, and the way the grammar is presented is hard for them to catch on. They find most of the exercises too difficult. Ditc...

Thanks for that. So it seems the 'state verbs' thing is just a guideline to help students avoid difficult choices.

Appreciate the help...trying to learn this stuff as I go along!

Verbs that are both action and state in p perfect continuous

Hi there. I got stumped by this one today. I have been teaching that we don't generally use state verbs with progressive tenses e.g. "I have been knowing it for 2 years" - we would use present perfect simple "I have known" ...what about this though "I have been feeling ill for a week". It seems to d...

Videos of good teaching?

Hi. Not sure where to post, but a few knowledgeable people hang round here. I'm looking for videos of good example lessons on youtube etc, but it's a hard one to search for.

Not materials for students, but examples of lessons being taught - model lessons for CELTA, DELTA etc.

Anyone know any?

I was just thinking about this tonight actually. I'm pretty new so excuse my lack of theory, but I did some listening to fairly standard UK and US accents with my class today and we had a discussion about the differences. We both agreed that the US accent enunciates syllables better and also doesn't...

I just popped on and saw the new replies. Thanks! I have a copy of 'humanising your coursebook' and it's really helped. I did about 2/3 of a page in a 3 hour lesson and everyone enjoyed it. I think it's identified a real need for new teachers, as we all know people learn by copying other peoples cho...

? Using coursebook material creatively and extending work

I'm a new teacher who's started with a full timetable, and realistically I'm basing my lessons on the coursebook, with the odd bit from somewhere else. I was wondering if you could share some ideas for using textbook material creatively to make it more interesting, and make the practice last longer....

Thanks, great resources. I guess what would be most useful at the moment would be a web guide to teaching efl/esl. Does such a thing exist, or are there any decent cheap courses on the web?

Cheers!

Good websites for teaching methods etc?

Hi everyone. I took a celta 2 years ago and have not used it up until now. I've ended up in Guatemala teaching 4 classes a week. I do my best for the students, but badly need a refresh on teaching techniques and methods. My lessons are quite basic and repetitive and I don't remember how to get gramm...
