testing in ESP

Hello dear colleagues, Some time ago I found out that I need to make a report at the conference in April. The topic is "Testing vocabulary in ESP". I've got experience in it as mostly I'm involved in teaching English for Earth Studies at university. However, if you happen to teach ESP (any field), I...

In fact I asked not about how to explain, because we've already discussed that but how to practice more after explanations and doing drilling exercises.

Well, how about teaching such words as machinery, confidence, evil, means and so on. Should I bring all of them to my class as well?

I don't think they need small talk and all this stuff, they have the second teacher who teaches General English. Discussion and Debate - we have tried that, but it's difficult to organise that because the texts we read with them don't allow much debate. The example of vocab. we study with them: weat...

Countable/uncountable nouns. Techniques to teach

Good morning, I just wonder what techniques we can use to teach countable/uncountable nouns. I have a student and we prepare with her to a written grammar test that she'll have to take to enter university, so we'll have to cover this topic. I want to do it as creative as I can in other case I guess ...

Thanks for your ideas, but they are too easy for my students. I mean we delve into really specific scientific language but I don't want to bore them to death with all these specific texts!
Any ideas about this?

Activities for ESP (Geography)

I teach English to students of Department of Geography and sometimes I feel a lack of activities. Our programme is based on increasing vocabulary and studying specific scientific texts, but they do need some conversational practice. Well, what we sometimes do some conferences devoted to the topic th...

Larry, Teaching grammar exclusively is not helpful and does not help adults learn the language. Sorry, I wasn't able to participate in the discussion organized by myself for a while :( Just want to add something, I do believe that we should teach grammar when we teach adults. 100% we shouldn't devo...

How to put Grammar into practice

Hello dear colleagues. Sometimes I wonder what ways we can use to put more complicated Grammar into practice. Let's say we've got adults at Pre-Itern level who know Past Simple, Present Simple, Present Cont. We've introduced them to Present Perfect and after drilling exercices they still tend to sub...
