Hi

MIT is an excellent choice for a PhD in Linguistics, but for Applied Linguistics it may not be the best choice as the department there does not really focus on that field.

Hi

Macquarie is an excellent choice. They offer a PhD and a professional doctorate called the Doctor of Applied Linguistics. Lancaster University also has a good programme.

Hi If you have a PhD you can call youreself Dr, but it doesn't necessarily work the other way. For example, you may be a Doctor of Education, then you'd be an EdD, not a PhD. The Macquarie award entitles you to the letters DAppLing, and also to use the title Dr, but it's not a PhD. The Masters award...
