Yeah it's partly true from what you said. But i think it's a great tool to motivate them to participate in the lesson/you can called it a game. I tried it with my students, not to use "have you got"... Actually i gave them some flash card with picture and words in it. e.g. Gorilla is wearing a hat. ...

Hi there, Oh I think of another way for the dictation. In case your students aren't very clear about the sentence structure. You can introduce it to them. Let says. You have a sentence like this: e.g. Tom likes to read. You can guide them to know "Tom" is a noun and you can always substitute other n...

Thanks for the advice. Actually I have been trying many things to stimulate my student's interest. I use some pictures, ask him to tell me what's inside the pic (for practicing his oral english), also ask him to write a short story as well. I even bought a comprehension board game, try to stimulate ...

Hi there, For the smart kid, you can give them more combined tasks to do. For the little girl, you can bring some pictures, ask her to describe the pictures for you (about 1-3 pictures is enough), or find two different pics and ask her to tell you the differences. At this stage, accept what the girl...

have you got a.......(use printed card to help you...)
First of all, I guess you don't have to panic about this. Well, I tried one game with my students before, they love it so much. Okay, you can go online to find some activity cards. Sorry i can't remember one web site which provides the sources like that. Find some printed cards online which have pic...

Dictation can be interesting though!
Hi there, I have just read a book about different teaching method. Well, yeah for me, I think dictation is a dull task, still we need to think of the student's viewpoint, if they love it, that's great. They have motivation to do it best. Use the format of dictation to test their " articles " use, su...

help with motivating students to READ and WRITE
Dear all, I am having a problem with motivating my student to read and write. I've found it's hard in HK situation that students are all stressing out, due to the HK education system that pushes them to just study for the exam. After they finished the exam, all the things they learnt will be gone wi...
