I hope things are working better for you--it seems you have the right idea about trying to meet your students needs. As you may have guessed, this forum is not as active as it once was. However, you may find some ideas in the archives that might trigger some more ideas.

As you can see, this forum isn't as active as it once was, and I don't know what questions you may have, but you might find some interesting things in the archives.

Nice to see you, revel. No, I can't believe you are doing agricultural machinery importation and sales! I retired in 2010 after 40 years teaching ESL, but I am not doing anything exciting like agricultural machinery :D. Dave's has not been real busy for quite some time, but there are a lot of nice t...

I've just noticed it from people writing and speaking. I don't like the demise of the past perfect though. There's no better way to show something happened in the past before something else ;)

Hiya Lori, how's it going? :) I just wish the guy could articulate his objections more clearly (perhaps he should write a grammar of his own LOL), but then, to do so he'd actually have to understand a lot more than his pet (and apparently irrational) hate. I'm doing fine, thanks. Hope you are too. ...

If you want to see some serious confusion about Past Perfect at least, there's a reviewer on Amazon who's found fault with dozens of grammar books for using the form LOL. It's actually impossible to work out quite what the guy's problem is (other than he doesn't appear to have grasped that a "super...

Re: HI everybody

I was just going through all the pages on this website and out of the blue I focused on this good question you're asking for. You must always remember what the concept of the present perfect is about, it's an action that began in the past before another took place, so the most important thing it's ...

Re: How to turn a non-classroom talkative student into one?

So far I've got a student in the classroom who doesn't speak at all, every time and activity I do to make him talk is useless. I've tried with relaxing and entertaining things, but it's not enough, At home he behaves the same way What can I do??? If he behaves the same way at home, it seems he woul...

As I have gotten older, I must admit the concept of "elderly" has increased as well. 60 to 70 isn't very elderly to me ;) Before I retired, I taught many students who were in their 70s and 80s. We had mixed classes that included adults of different ages from many different countries and many differe...

I will tell you at the start I have never taught kids, but I spent forty years teaching English as a Second Language to adults, from beginners to advanced. I don't know what level the "beginning" is, nor what age the children are supposed to be. It seems you have a mix of some nice activities, but I...

Both of them seem to have be verbs omitted. I don't know a special name for it though. A reduction of some sort perhaps?

Re: Thank you ever so much for your kind reply :)

Thank you ever so much for your kind reply :) Yes I agree with what you said. I would also say the same. As far as the use for simple present perfect goes I have more examples here which conform to this rule. 2. To emphasise the present result of a past event. I can't get in the house. I've lost my...
