Agree totally with JuanTwoThree. I have never heard a native speaker use
'mustn't' to convey a lack of obligation.

I have never heard "you mustn't do it if you don't want to". It just does not make sense.

No way are the two confused.

Thanks for your reply. Maybe there is a difference in usage between the various countries. Certainly when I looked it up on the Internet, the majority of 'ask forgiveness') were, or seemed to be, American. I am not the best grammar teacher in the world. Thanks for reply. I said the same, but another student did some research on Internet, and came back with hundreds of postings from sites, including US newspapers expressing 'ask forgiveness'. Here my problem starts. As far as I'm concerned, it should be: Ask for forgiveness; - the general statement....

I've been asked the above (is it correct to 'ask forgiveness' or 'ask for forgiveness'), and I'm in trouble giving a good grammatical explanation.

I am wanting to get a CELTA / TEFL certificate, am living in Warsaw (an expat Brit), and have seen a few courses reasonably near - Krakov & Brno. The Krakov college offers CELTA, and the Brno offers TEFL. It would seem that the more intensive, and with the better teacher/student ratio is Brno, but I...
