Thanks for your reply, Lorikeet, I'm in LA county. Looking at the TESOL requirements (at the Cal. state campus near me), I see that I need a certificate. When I spoke with one of the ESL professors at a local community college, she said all anyone needs is a master's, and that she didn't have a cert...

requirements to teach
Hello everyone, It's always been my understanding that in order to teach adults at the junior college level, all one needs is a master's degree. Is this different for esl? I'm finding information that says one needs to be certified (tesl, clad) and have adult teaching credentials. Does it matter if ...

I was thinking about sitting in on an ESL class or two at my local community college -just to get a feel for it all. As teachers, would you h...

My highschool daughter is required to take 2 years of Spanish. She does not like it at all :( . I minored in Spanish in college, and I've even done volunteer work teaching ESL, but she just won't let me help her. I don't think she'll listen to me anymore about how helpful, fun, mind-expanding, (fill...

Can I ask then, if a new teacher jumps right in, how would he/she know how to plan a curriculum, what methods to use, do assessments, knowing what books and other materials to use, etc? That seems like you're reinventing the wheel. I do understand what Superhal says about a certification being is mo...

Hello. I hope someone can answer my questions. I have a masters degree in linguistics. I have been told that I need to be certified to teach ESL, which would mean registering at a 4 year university and taking about 3 or 4 courses to complete their program. Are there other ways to go about getting ce...

Thanks for your reply. I did call our local adult education/community college, and they do require teachers to be certified. Maybe there are other programs, guess I'll have to do some research. One more question for anyone out there- would it be helpful to take some sort of teaching methods class? O...

Hello! I would like to teach ESL. I have a masters in linguistics, but still need to be certified. I need just a few more courses, methods of teaching being one of those courses. Because I have been a stay at home mom for a long time, and have not been in the classroom, I am at the same time excited...
