Yes- thaks for your idea. Staring them down deadpan might do it. I've also had another idea which is to seperate the group into three "workshops" - one the multimedia lab doing CDRom work, others in another room completing written/grammar exercises, and others in with me doing spoken practice. I thi...

serious discipline problem, exp. teachers please advise
Hi I've got a problem- I started teaching a class last week of 8 boys aged 17 to 20. They're studying mechanics and need English as part of their basic course requirements. None of them finished school properly so their general level of education is low, one or two are in "foyers"- foster homes. It ...

more scotch please
Here in france they say SCOTCH, but it confused me at first, they were referring to the brand, as we say "to hoover the house" instead of vacuum.
In Australia we say STICKY-TAPE, or perhaps TRANSPARENT TAPE if you're feeling posh...?

oh yes!
IN the wake OF a dramatic takeover at my English school, we were left with a complete nincompoop IN charge.
It was very sad. But true.
Prepositions are great. Sounds like a TOEIC problem. Preparing TOEIC is interesting, some American VS UK English usage differences....

you are so right!
Thanks for the replies!! Yep- to some extent the French just like to geuler (sp?) (moan). I love them, but its the way it is. They do respect The Method, they have it beaten into them at school so a bit of authority can work wonders (remind them of their primary school teachers) It's also true that ...

How much to charge? France
Hi- don't know if this helps but I'm in France and after a few years of exp. I'm charging 20 euros an hour to private students. It's important to not undercharge, the students need it to have faith in you (I know this sounds greedy but its true! they respect you more). And I think its important to k...

Grumpy Adults
Hi- have been teaching for 5 years in France and I'm not too bad (ie I don't do three hours grammar lessons or talk at them in a monotone voice or treat them like idiots). Normally things go well- at the moment I have an adult group I'm teaching for a social club. The club doesnt believe in testing,...
