Looking for Participants - Study about Eiken
I am currently conducting a study about the Eiken Pre-1st Test Policy for Japanese teachers of English who work at Japanese Junior and Senior High Schools. I am looking to interview another 20 teachers about their views and experiences regarding this policy. Interviews will be conducted by phone - s...

I had a look at the MES site, which appears to be geared to EFL rather than ESL pupils. I am sure they might take to the grammar games. In Wonder Whizz kids - they have topics like 'Let's discuss Feynman'. A little bit too advanced for primary school kids... Is there any resources out there that pre...

ESP
I reckon the best place to start is sitting down with them (with a translator if need be) and ask them why it is they want to learn English. Then, discuss what it is that they want to be able to say, write or do in English. Also, find out what kind of style of learning they are used to in their cont...

Qualifications & Job Security
I agree with fluffy hamster...CELTA is an initial qualification, to prepare ELT teachers for the classroom, that usually takes about four weeks to complete. A CELTA that has been issued by an unaccredited institution will probably be rejected by any good employer. (Unfortuantely, there are many cowb...

Learning through English
In my personal experence, being able to use more than one language has been a wonderful and enlightening experience. The point is, however, whether it is your choice, or whether it is a condition that has been enforced upon you. In terms of human rights, a protocol recognised by the United Nations, ...

In the UK
Well, the UK is not 'hot' on bilingual education as in other commonwealth countries and the USA. Our most famous Prof. would be Colin Baker. He holds a position at the University of Bangor. Wales has been quite successful in its approach. I recommend Birmingham or Leeds, if you are specifically inte...

Good material for 5th and 6th graders
Can anyone recommend any 'good' ESL materials for ESL beginners in the 5th and 6th grades?
Our kids just roll their eyes at the 'childish' material that we have in the school.
