Here's my own first attempt at a lesson based on Youtube clips: http://www.tefl.net/alexcase/teaching/tefl/tv-ads-modals-of-prob/ Worked quite well, although more as a link between the worksheets mentioned on the post than as a stimulus for conversation in itself. If anyone tries it with a smaller c...

Another way to organise it, especially with younger or less motivated students, or those who have been put off pronunciation by another teacher, is to base your syllabus around the things that are fun and include a lot of other skills such as free speaking. I based a whole specialist course around t...

If they are free, how about sticking them on a blog and putting a link here. If you'd like details on how to easily set up a blog, e.g. on an EFL related site, please let me know.

Were they textbooks, skills books or photocopiable worksheet books? If textbooks, were they short courses or long course (usually easy to tell as the short courses are thinner and have only 2 pages per unit)? Can you remember anything about the appearance? My recommendation would be New English File...

That is a tragedy, as there is nothing that good around that I have found, unless it is the Business English ones you are talking about, in which case Business Builder is even better. Other possibilities for similar photocopiable materials include: - Play Games with English- even older and possibly ...

You might find stuff on personal appearance from General English textbooks like Headway is useful. Also maybe the language of advice, ways of being polite by being indirect, imperatives for giving instructions, colours (a good thing on this in the old low Advanced textbook distinction), taste and st...
