HELP. usage of "amounts"

Hello,

I am prepareing for my class tomorrow, and I am stuck.
Not sure whether plural or singular goes with the expression " amoutns."

Which do you think is right?

1) Large amounts of information is :shock:
2) Large amounts of information are

I would use "Large amounts of information are.." because "Large amounts are..." would be plural. It's the amounts that "are" and not the information.
However, "A large amount of information is..." would be okay too.
