Any Movie suggestions for low-intermediate elem. students??

Post by jungmin » Mon Aug 22, 2005 7:59 am

I am teaching 20 kids for a couple weeks every day. In general, their english is better than most of the other elementary students (korean).

I can do whatever I want and was thinking about watching a movie and then having them answer some Q's and write something for me, and maybe act a part of it out.

SO....Any ideas for a suitable movie?? Kids love Harry Potter, maybe Star Wars, Spiderman?????

Please.....any ideas????

I lend out Dora the Explorer videos to kindergarten and lower elementary school students. They love them.

I'm in Japan and animation is a big hit here up through to adults. So, I can't swear by Dora, but the animation is old enough (not babyish) and the language is simple and repetitive. So, I'm sure you could use them.

Mouse Hunt is a great movie or any physical humor flick. It keeps the students interested even if they don't really understand the plot line.

I hope that helps.

What age of students do you have? Winnie the Pooh might be good for younger kids too. One of my favorites when I was a kid was Marry Poppins.

For older students (11-12), Whale Rider is very good. I used it in China (got a pirated version with English subtitles). The English is very simple and the story is easy to understand. The main character is a 12-year old girl, and the story concerns family relationships, parental expectations, and the different ways in which boys and girls are treated--themes which might be of interest to your students as well.

Mr Bean the movie is very good for students of all ages. And from a teaching point of view it's a dream :!:
