Creative thinking in Reduced Relative Clauses

Post by goksuc » Mon Mar 13, 2006 9:51 pm

Hi everyone,

I would like to learn your ideas about how to teach Reduced Relative Clauses using a creative method.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Some threads about relative pronouns and clauses in general (some discussion of reduced), with glimmerings of activities along the way:

You can find a few more, if you use the search function.

Fluffy - those are some interesting threads. I often have the same battles with JTEs. The well this is how they'll be tested arguement seems inpenetrable.

goksuc - As for activities, what age group are you teaching and are you working on structure or functional use?

a preemptive strike...
www.bogglesworld.com has some great cards you can print out with various forms of relative clauses. These can be used to play a variety of card games. Some represent language chunks not full sentences and place nice focus on the modified noun.
"a basketball player passing a ball"
"icycles hanging from the roof"

There is also an occupations set decribing different people in the community.
"A police officer is someone who protects people."
