getting learners to participate in group work

Post by mlbg » Sat Apr 08, 2006 8:37 am

how can i get learners participating equally in group discussions?
at times some learners seem bored and do not take part while others want to do all the talking during discussions.
Other learners do not make significant contributions but rely on one or two members of the group to come up with all the answers.

what can i do to enhance learners participation during group work?

There is a whole field of study on group work and if you look up Co-operative Learning or Collaborative Learning you will find tons of books and research on helping people work together. It is vitally important in todays business world and doesn't hurt in any other relationships. Cheers to you for trying. Don't get discouraged and go back to Sage on the Stage teaching just because it doesn't work for a few. It is doing wonders for some and you can encourage those othes to participate.
