What is compound words?Will you please give me some advice?

It's a word that is made from two other words. Sometimes you can figure out the meaning. There are many, many words, such as: sidewalk, highway, nightgown, earring, upstairs, and here's a list from the Internet:

I do agree with the explanation, and for my part decompounding the word is the easiest way to find the meaning of a word without consulting the dictionary
