Strategies for improving oral fluency

Post by Kate in Toulouse » Thu Jan 31, 2013 5:38 pm

Hello,

I work with adult business students on a 1:1 basis.

If anyone has any good ideas for strategies for improving verbal fluency, I'd be grateful to hear them: not so much game ideas or conversation starters (I'm great at that already  ) but the strategies or pedagogy behind it.

For example, is it best to drill certain structures first; to do role plays with them; to teach lexical chunks, to practise simultaneous translations, or just to let the students go for it? Any links to useful books and articles on the subject would be great.

Thanks very much!
