Hi all
Can anyone please suggest activities for a class library and how to monitor students to read? They bring their own book to the class and exchange it with other students.
Thank you so much

Sounds great. Why do you want to monitor it? If they are reading, you are successful. If they bring their own books, I bet they are really interesting for the rest of the class. Do they get to read in class or just exchange books? Do they talk about the books they have read? Do they do book reports? Do they keep a book log of books read and liked or not liked? Do they summarize the stories and share those with others who have read it? Do they make a poster with a promotion for a certain book they really liked? Do they keep a vocabulary list of new words they learned through the books? Do they compare the books they have read and recommend others in the same genre to the class?

One of the things I do to keep better records and encourage reading in class is to keep a journal log of reading . In the last 3 minutes of class I have studnets write a brief summary of what they have read. This helps them keep organized and allows me time to evaluate who was participating in class and who was not.
