"Cool" slang songs?

Post by Kerri :) » Thu Nov 25, 2004 5:21 pm

I would love to use songs in my classroom and I am looking for any ideas (songs and activities) to teach slang to adolescents at an intermediate level. This has got their interests up, so I thought I would give it a try. Any help would be great! Thanks. 8)

have you tried South Park movies? You can get them ".avi" on line, or buy the DVDs!

It was a success among the students!!!

They've loved them!

Depending on the type of kids you are teaching, for the most part you can never go wrong with hip hop. Adolescent teens, especially boys that might "act too cool" will participate when it comes to popular rappers. Even the girls love to get involved.

Play a song from snoop (gin & juice or drop it like its hot) or jay-z(big pimpin or 99 problems)... just a real popular star so everyone in the class most likely has heard the song. Though you must know every type of child you are dealing with because some of these songs could be offensive. As long as the whole class wants too... then lay it on thick with the slangs.
