Hi. I start my first job as a resource room teacher in August. Can anybody suggest any materials or resources I can take with me before I start this position. Thx

I'm going to tackle this from the internet end and let the book experts set you right. There are loads of resources available to you on-line but you need to put together the resources yourself in most cases.

www.mes-english.com (free: flash cards, games, activities, phonics materials)
www.bogglesworld.com (free: flash cards, games, activities, phonics materials, role plays, discussion forums)
www.englishraven.com (requires subscription but has the most materials of any site that I've found.)

There are more resource sites but these are my favorites. the top one is mine so yes I'm a little partial

www.sitesforteachers.com (a web portal full of links. The best part is they have a great search function and you can usually find what your looking for rather quickly.)

I have a few books that are like my bibles but I just used the best I could find in Japan so I'd rather let someone else give you advice on that.

It might be helpful to others who will post to tell them where you are, what level (elementary, junior high, etc.)

well Mark... I really think she was talking about real world resources... such as books and video... etc.

I agree that your site and the sites you listed are wonderful resources for anyone.

However, If I was a teacher that was in America right now and I had the resources of some of the larger libraries... I would bring some books on how to teach... more effectively.

I don't see anyone needing to bring English books into this country...^^ there are a *beep* load and more are not very expensive... and most schools are willing to pay for them...

However, books such as novels and magazines in this country that no school is going to pay for are so extremely high... Even most of the Used book stores are foolishly high...

a magazine you would 5USdollar in America will cost you 16 USdollar. I teach science in a private high school and if I want to buy a Chemistry book (GOD forbid) I have to practically sell my baby...^^
