I will teach English reading in a high school in China, and I hope that my students can learn by doing some interesting activities. But it is so difficult for me to find suitable activities for them, because they are about 17 years old, and they are under the pressure of College Entrance Examations.
Anyone can give me some suggestions?
Thanks!

About design reading activities
Hi there,
I read your message and like to say something. First, plan your lesson carefully; second, select materials that meet their needs; third, train them reading skills and make them believe that you are really try to help them. When they find what you teach is helpful to them, then they will follow your step. Them when you design any activities, they will be willing to follow you. The key point is your attitude.

Those exams seem like a life and death situation for them so I don't know that I would go outside what they are required to learn for the exams. I noticed in Mongolia that the students who went over and over the old exams did better than those who just read randomly. There is a skill to taking exams and I think as teachers, we need to take teach these skills just as much as we teach the skills of reading. If they make silly mistakes because they don't understand the exams, all the reading in the world won't help them. I have them design the tests from the ground up and help them understand what the testers are looking for and why they would chose a certain way to test. There are certain mistakes that testers are looking for and they come up over and over in exams. It helps them to see what is required in each section of the exam and how they can predict the answes and how they can get through quickly so they have a chance to check their answers. I realize that it is not as satifying to teach this way so you could try your best to change the exams so they reflect the kind of teaching that you would like to do.
