Hi. I'm working at a Kindergarten in Korea. My kids are familiar with the English alphabet and have a basic understanding of phonics.

They are having a hard time remembering how to write their names in English. Every time I ask put their names on a paper, they find another paper with their name and copy it.

Does anyone have any lesson/activity/worksheet that will help my kids memorize the spelling of their own names?

I have a few different things that I have used to help kids with writing. First, have everyone make a name-tag for themselves in English. To help them do this, you can have the cards made up ahead of time with their names written in faint pencil for them to trace over. Then, if they have a good set of flashcards that you use for the alphabet, get them to draw the pictures that are associated with each letter. For example, IN-HO would draw Icecream, Notebook, Horse, Orange.

Another way to give kids practice with writing is in a temporary medium such as sand trays (just a pie plate with 2cm of sand in it) or shaving cream on a table(each kid gets a blob and they spead it on the table and write in it). This is lots more fun than worksheets, and they can easily erase their mistakes. I would have them make tha name tags during the frist class, and then bring out the sand trays or shaving cream for practice later so they can copy from their name tags. [/b]
