Hi
I'd recommend
"
How to Teach Vocabulary "
by Scott Thornbury......published by Longman.
It's excellent.
If you want to investigate vocabulary learning strategies further then visit
http://www.wordsurfing.co.uk
The "Word Surfing" site looks at this topic in depth... and you should be able to find more help there. Check out the links for lots of recent discussion on learning strategies.
Hope this helps.
Will
P.S. If you, your teachers or colleagues would like to suggest any materials that could usefully be included on the Word Surfing site - please let me know.
Thanks, Will

Thank you very much for the site and the book. However, I am interested more in strategies of
learning vocabulary rather than teaching vocabulary. I have written two or three papers on study skills (how students learn) and I am interested in writing a paper on how they learn vocabulary.
I will buy the book you suggested but is there a book on the strategies students use to learn vocabulary?
Thanks a million

Hi fireworks
sorry for the delay in replying - there are several links towards books that might be of interest to you here
http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=vocabu ... rt=20&sa=N
but... to be honest ... I had a lot of difficulty finding good material on practical strategies - and that's what led me to developing Word Surfing.
Anyway, please let me know if you find/have found anything worthwhile!
In the meantime, best wishes etc
Will

P.S. ( this was also sent to you as a pm about a week ago - but is somehow stuck in my "outbox" - and I suspect that you haven't received it - so trying here!!)
