How to arose their interest?

Post by kakabear » Wed May 31, 2006 3:16 am

I will be a high school teacher next year. Now I teach some elementary school students as a part-time job. Sometimes I even just to lose my patience. Some of them are tired of learning so they do not follow me, some of them had no interest in learning English so they keep silent all the time even cry sometimes, We all know learning is a hard work to do, especially for the youger kids, so sometimes I play games with them, sometimes I read story or divide the class into several parts. that 's effect a lot. Now they are like my lovely friends and get more interest in English. However, could you tell me some other effective way to arose their interest? You know one game could interests them once :D

Did you take a look at some of the other threads in this forum? There are a lot of good suggestions.

Games are good

Check this board for ideas for games and other fun things.

Start with the Hokey Pokey when the kids get restless. In particular they like putting their bottom in and shaking it all about! Even kids who are total beginners like the Hokey Pokey and can follow along though they don't understand what you're singing at first. They'll follow your actions.

You also need a plan for rewarding good behavior. I buy bags of really cheap candy. When there's only one kid who's not totally out of line, I'll give him a pice of candy and praise: "Nice quiet work, Chel Won!" The other kids will see Chel Won get candy and they'll settle down. Usually within about five minutes this gets them all settled.

Try having the kids do the attendance. Trade places with the kid whose turn it is to do attendance that day, and answer to that kid's name when she calls it. This not only gets a kid very involved right away, it gives the kids an appreciation for what it's like to be the teacher.

I learned a great lesson last year; Pretend to lose patience before you really lose patience! I try to have my pupils do most of the work in class; it keeps them occupied and they cannot afford losing interest. Start the year being the strict and consequent teacher. Teaching is fun, keep it that way!! :P

there are several to make students have interets in learning English.

For example, to make a role-play, let students play a role in the class , of course, ask them to use the materials of the text and to use English.

The second way is that to teach them sing English songs, that way can not only improve their interests in English but also can correct their pronounciation.

Another way is that to ask students play games in English, almost every student like playing, even if they play the games in English. So using this way can also improve their interest.

I think some of students have no interest in English-learning just besause they have a lower level in English than others. So for them English is hard to learn.
To improve this kind of students' interest, the best way is to encourage them and help them. Teach them some good ways to learn English, and reduce their worries in learning English.
If they have a higher level than before, they will have more interests in leaning.

Try to make your class interesting. Boring class is a main factor for them losing interest in learning English.

You can find more good ways in this forum.
