Hi there,
I am due to finishing my TEFL course within the next couple of days, and I am going to live in Xiamen in China with my boyfriend.
We go out in August and I have already been offered a couple of jobs in schools.
I was just wondering if anyone could give me some advice on my first lessons, what to expect, what it is going to be like etc.
I am very scared because I just don't know what to expect, and could just do with some reasuring words!

Thanks
Kirsty

good luck with your tefl course! where ru doing it and with who? i finished mine with EF in may and am now teaching in guangzhou, i cant speak for all schools of course, but everyone was so helpful and friendly when we arrived and that made it easier. you may get to observe some lessons first to see what the deal is so that will help you! and you will be fresh with ideas from your course so im sure that you will do great! good luck!

Hi, I am doing my course with i-to-i. I have been very impressed with them so far, just putting my final lesson plan together. It sounds interesting what you are doing.
Did the school you are working in help you with your work visa? My visa to come to China has been sorted but not the work visa.
Getting nervous now! Only 6 weeks till we go.

I just added some teach in China resource sites for the newcomer to my website. Look under 'C' for 'Country Specific Resources' or 'J' for 'Jobs' or 'L' for 'legal'. These sites give plenty of tips and cautions. You can also check the China Job Forum on Dave's site. This Teacher's Forum may not be the best forum for firsthand advice on China.

If you're going with your boyfriend, I think you can be at least reassured that you'll have someone to share any woes you might have at being somewhere new and strange - it'll certainly all seem strange to begin with, but you're not condeming yourself to lifelong exile, right!

Good luck and have fun!
