I am teaching in Korea, and I have decided to terminate my contract 8 months into the 1 year period initially agreed upon. The contract allows for this instance, with no penalties, just as long as I give at least 6 weeks notice. However my director is threatening to deduct some funds from my wage, because the room I am staying in has 1 year lease on it. That is not in the contract, and I would never have resigned if I had known this. Does anyone have any advice, and if necessary, does anybody recommend the Korean Labor board as people to get in contact with in the case of contract disputes? I am a little annoyed at this development as my stay in Korea has been a good one up until now.

If it's not in the contract, he can't do it. Labor board can only really help after the fact, just like the police. So, find another job first, then let him know you would like to present this issue to the labor board. Be very polite. Then do it. Right then. So, do this at a time you can go to the board immediately.

I will try to get another job, but I don't know where to start. Does anybody know where I can work for two months (legally) before I go home on December 15 (which is when I have the airfare booked).
