11-12 year old beginners

Post by monkusfishwife » Tue Oct 24, 2006 7:22 am

I am currently having real trouble teaching a group of 11-12 year old beginners. There are 11 of them and, although this may sound harsh, they are genuinely troublesome and don't like doing work. The book I have been told to use by my DoS is way above their level (New Opportunities Beginner), so I have been taking the main grammar and vocab points from the book and trying to teach them with games, flashcards, etc, but the kids have a tendency to sabotage the games and by the time the next lesson comes around they seem to have forgotten almost everything. I've asked my DoS about changing books but to no avail.

Does anyone have any bright ideas for what I could do in the class (games, etc) or, just good general ideas for teaching beginners in this age group.

Thanks.
