how to apply efficent activities to listening class

I will become a new teacher next year. As to myself, I don't like having listening classes, becaue I think it is a little bit wast of time. So when i become a teacher, i am sure my students will have the same feelings as well. However i have no idea about how to change this bad situation. :? Do you have any strategies to change the listening class more interesting and useful?

What did you do in your listening classes? Why didn't you like them? What kind of English do you speak?

You didn't like it because it was too easy or too hard?

Why not have students listen as many times as necessary. Then the students try to recreate the dialog verbally? Aftterwards, compare the students version with the original.

However, if it's a listening class, a speaking activity mgiht be be inappropriate.

We can only listen to the tape and then answer the question . That 's all.
So I want to know what other activities we can use to let the students participate in them actively?

There are a lot of listening games if you would like some of those.

We may have pre-listening, while-listening and post-listening activities. In pre-listening activities, we may intorduce something concerned with the listening topic. This will make students feel easier while they are listening to the tape. While-listening activities are difficult to design because teachers usually confined to some perticular teaching content. For the pos-listening activities, the purpose is to let the students understand what they have heard, and remember some useful knowledge.
Whatever we do, we should arouse students interest in lisening. Try to avoid wasting time!
