Pronunciation Software
Hello. I´m new to this forum. I´m trying to develop a new software for pronunciation for english as a second language students. I realize there is existing software, including pronunciation power 1 and 2. Does anybody know what other software exists that is really good for students? Also is there any existing software that not only corrects you, but has a percentage or points system to let the student know how well he or she is doing with pronunciation? Also are there any good websites you could direct me to?
pronunciation software
Doctor Speech is a famous software package for speech sound analysis. It was created for diagnosis and remediation of articulation disorders in first language speakers, but can also be used with second language learners to improve their pronunciation. The cool thing about this software is that it provides a spectrogram of the client's speech, so you can visually compare the client's speech to yours, or to another model.
Another software package I know of is the CD that comes with the Compton P-ESL accent modification system. I'm not a huge fan of the CD iteslf, because the sound engineering is not as good as I'd like. But as an accent modification program, Compton P-ESL is something of an industry standard and worth checking out. It's published by a company in California, I think it's called the Institute of Phonology and Language, or something like that. You can also access it via any local speech-language pathologist in your area who provides the program.
Both of these can be found on web search engines. You might also try searching for other software using key words such as: accent modification, accent reduction, speech analysis, AAC (Alternative Augmentive Communication), dysarthria software, acoustical analysis software, and speech assessment.
Good luck!
