One-on-one

I'm currently working on a volunteer basis to teach a Somalian refugee English. Does anyone have any good ideas for working with an individual student? I've only taught larger classes before and right now I'm looking for more ways to elicit conversation and find activities that just the two of us can do. Also, does anyone have any good low intermediate book recommendations with small group activities??

Have you ever used The Internet TESL journal. It's at
http://iteslj.org/ One page there worth looking at is 'questions' (you can go straight to it by adding
questions/ to the URL). It lists about forty discussion topics, with about forty questions to follow up on each topic. But the Home Page will lead you in other directions as well.

What an interesting experience to work with someone who desperately need help from us. There are few websites which i have explored recently which are relevant to your request.
