I teach Japanese. Large Classes with the same amout to time. Total of 240 students a day. My classes are devided into 9 groups which I change every 9 weeks.
My day is like this:
In small note book they copy off the questions from the "Kanji Corner". They have to answer the questions (review of previous matterial).
Next, I teach a new concept.
Next, for dialogue: they write it. Then they say it in pairs in front of the classroom. They have the rubric of what I expect to hear. It is written in Japanese and English. They can add prompts if they wish.
This can take a few days to get through because I don't expect everyone to do it the same day. I also have a lot of essay writing time so that they can express themselves in Japanese. (Yes, I grade 240 essays a week).
Next, we conclude with a quick group game. This might be a bingo card that THEY have prepared. They can use any new vocab. from that chapter. Winner gets extra credit added to thier grade = motivation.
KEY: I NEVER, EVER prepare material any longer. I let the students prepare their own.
There are four elements I try to remember: Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening. Reading is the most important as that is how you will GAIN your largest amount of vocabulary.
Good luck!
