Useful resources for secondary students

Post by G_Pook » Tue Feb 07, 2006 10:47 am

I have been using news articles on www.bbc.com and some articles from www.articlecube.com. they are useful for comprehension and summarising respectively. they are also a good way to get discussions going although i have found that with my students the problems seem to lie more in the writing than the speaking. i think they have become very accustomed to speaking and discussing but cannot correctly write down their thoughts.

also try

http://esl.about.com/
www.sparknotes.com
http://iteslj.org

they have been useful for resources as well as ideas.
sparknotes is especially good for analysing litertaure and poetry. although intended for first language students it can be altered to work effectively with esl as long as you read, rephrase and simplify the analyses.
