How to make a 13-year-old boy be interested in English?

Post by wenyanwendy » Thu Apr 19, 2007 5:16 am

Hi, my friends.
My nephew aged 13 has learned English for two years. At the beginning, he was very interested in it, but now, he doesn't like it. When I try my best to teach him, he won't cooperate with me and even won't listen to me. I don't know why. What can I do? Could you give me some suggestions in detail on how to make him interested in learning English again? Thank you very much!

I have a student that age. Basketball has been a good incentive this year, but I don't know if you are in a place where school activities can be a motivator. Is there a style of music or kind of movie that he would like to hear/ see, but is only in English? If he sees how knowing English could be fun, he might be interested again.

Maybe you can have a talk with him. He may come cross some difficulties during the process of learning English. After knowing his problems, you can help him by using the correct methods. or you can use some interesting activities or games to motivate him. If he finds that learing English is not that boring, he will be interested it again.

My nephew is 14,he is really a smart boy, always get the highest marks in
math and physics but failed in English test last term.He think English is boring just memorizing. To such kids, the most important thing is to motivate them, spark their interest, that's the focus of the whole matter.
Find anything they like in English, sports .music.movies .interesting books
and so on.They have the ability to learn well and deep, once they are
motivated.
